Magali van Maanen grew up in the Netherlands, Belgium and Australia. She studied Dutch law at the University of Utrecht. Even as an undergraduate, she developed a significant interest in the law of persons and families. While still studying, Magali was a student trainee with De Boorder Lawyers and joined this firm as a lawyer on 1 April 2006. She was appointed a partner from 1 April 2019.

As a lawyer and mediator, Magali has been a member of the Dutch Association for Family Law Lawyers and Divorce Mediators (vFAS) and the Netherlands Mediators’ Federation (MfN) since 2011. In 2016, she completed her studies as a Collaborative Divorce Lawyer. She is also a member of the board of the Dutch International Child Abduction Lawyers’ Association.

Magali speaks fluent English and her areas of interest tend towards cases with an international aspect. She is a member of the International Academy of Family Lawyers, and so has a vast network of lawyers in different jurisdictions. This facilitates gathering information on foreign law, which is necessary to advise expats.

Magali is drawn to the legal puzzle of complex issues and regards this as the basis of sound advice. In her practice, she focuses on solutions. The objective is to achieve a reasonable outcome as efficiently as possible. Preferably this is done in mutual agreement, but she is prepared to initiate court proceedings if necessary.
